Superstition or coincidence!!!

I had never been religious or superstitious in my life. Although many psychologists say that people with ADHD are more or less unable to comprehend the concept of religion in its raw form, I believe that the reason why i do not believe in this is due to the science involved in the same. So why am i writing this?? Something strange was happening, the reason why i say strange is coz being someone who understands probability, certain things just cannot remain coincidences. Unlike many others, I never believe such things unless it happens to me.

So to set the perspective of the scenario, let me back up to January 2010. I and some of my colleagues were staying in a house near my workplace. The work was good, the money in the bank was good, and Life was great. Everything we wanted was happening. But then in the beginning of the month one of my colleague’s girl friend was supposed to relocate to our city, so he started searching for a house near to the office. Soon he found one and she shifted into the house along with her friend and her husband. The house was located in a strategic location, directly opposite to a bus terminal, right next to the national highway and in the town centre. The house in turn was really huge with four bedrooms and a huge lawn. The owner stayed right next door. He was the perfect landlord… friendly, charming and really helpful. The husband was a business man who was doing quite well too.

Within a couple of weeks of them shifting into the house, tensions started boiling up between my colleague and his girlfriend. Everyone considered it to be the ‘usual’ fight. But then the husband all of a sudden started losing out on his business with one by one of his contracts getting cancelled for no apparent reason. So soon he got the vaastu of the house checked and it seems the astrologer told him that the house is very very bad according to vaastu and practically threatened him citing the misfortune awaiting. Scared and superstitious as he might he decided to flee the house. Being totally un-superstitious, In what could be called as the perfect steal of the opened opportunity, we offered him our house and told him that we would shift to his house. He agreed instantly to the latter. So in the month of February we moved into THE HOUSE much to the dismay of my parents. We loved the house as it was spacious and everything we could ask for…

There were no crazy incidents or anything of that sort which would bring a twist to this.. I did lose the keys to my room and got locked out a couple of times. And one of my housemate seemed to have a allergic reaction to the house since he would start sneezing the moment he entered the house. But the most interesting thing was the strange attraction of insects towards his room, even though absolutely no entry point for the insects could be detected. But anyway as of today, we are still living in that house. But the blog post reason happened yesterday. I was running short of cash for some time now. My girlfriend and me broke up for no apparent reason. The most cash surplus people in the house were drowned in debt and even our workplace was going down. Yesterday, we were discussing and planning the payment of the rent when all of a sudden my colleague asked me when was it that we had moved into the house. I told him that it was in February of this year. I could see some kind of a realization flowing into his face, it was confirmed when he exclaimed the next second that it was the same month that our finance and other decline had started!!! He was right, there was a connection. So he immediately called up our colleague whose girlfriend had stayed there and told him of the discovery to which he got a reply “but do you believe in that?? The owner had stayed there and now he has built this new huge house next to it.. Don’t be superstitious.”.. When i heard that, I couldn’t resist correcting one slight detail, I told him “technically, the owner never stayed there. He was abroad his whole life and he came back only after the new house was built implying that he never stayed in this house”. The very next second he screamed GET OUT OF THE HOUSE.. Don’t think, just do it…

So, at night, I told my parents about this incident to which they told me that they were hoping to talk to me about this as they too doubted it. I was also given an example of a house near my brother in law’s place which shared similar characteristics but with more gruesome results. Seemingly of all the family who has stayed there, someone has always died!!! WOW.. That seemed dangerous. The conversation had to be ended with a promise to move out of the house.

So why the blog.. Probabilistically what had happened there cannot be accounted as a coincidence. Since there were eight people involved and all of them had experienced this fall. Now eight people having issues at the same time is perfectly, but how about all eight of them having only one thing in common and the time is oriented around the period of stay in the house. At this point most people reading the blog would be ready to acknowledge that Ninja has become superstitions.. Well I have not. Nor do I believe the superstition. I just wanted to give the scientific reason for the same. I want to project how I see this!

Vaastu as some would say is proven scientifically. I can support that notion quite easily. It could be seen simply in the form of a simple example. Imagine sitting in a train, any person would feel more comfortable facing the direction of the travel rather than an opposite one. Some may argue saying I don’t care. But if given an option to sit either way, anyone would prefer facing the direction of movement. Similarly vaastu is more oriented towards alignment in the direction of motion of the earth. There are various other scientific arguments including enabling better blood flow taking into consideration the earth’s spin etc. But all this has nothing to do with the financial capacity of a person or the deals/ contract which a person might have in his business. Vaastu as well as feng shui deals in the metaphysical translation or altering of energy. All this can translate to is towards probably making you wake up a wee bit more fresh or give you a good night’s sleep. All other claims are Hokum in theory.

So if this is the case then how come these things happen??? To start off with an explanation for this, We first need to know something about Noetic Science or the Noetic theory. This is nothing but a metaphysical branch of study which deals mainly in the concept of mind and intuition. This is something which has started gaining popularity recently due to proofs being generated in the near past. Noetic theory predicts something called as Psychokinetic phenomenon, more commonly known as telekinesis aka Mind over matter. Now I am not talking science fiction here. Psychokinetic capabilities have been proven but not in the manner which most people reading it would imagine. Science fiction tells us that Psychokinesis is all about lifting chairs and desks or even creating force fields etc. But that is not what is meant by Psychokinesis here. To explain it in a real world scenario lets consider flipping of a coin. The result can be either heads or tails, the probability of each being ½ = 0.5. Now if this random experiment is conducted enough times, the distribution curve would tend to settle down with 0.5 probability each. But now consider and Psychokinesis based random experiment of similar nature. In this, we do the same flipping of the coin but this time we have around 20 people who are watching this and who are told that the next flip will be a heads. So 20 people subconsciously believe the next flip to be a heads (subconscious belief is required since that is considered to be the most powerful mental segment of a human being.). Most of us don’t expect anything to happen. But Noetic science proves that if such an experiment is conducted then the probability of getting a heads during the toss is higher than 0.5. This, is Psychokinesis altering the probability distribution.

So from the above explanation, what I intend to put across is the fact that most superstition which results in a coincidental happening has nothing to do with the superstition but more to do with our mind. If a black cat crosses you, it does not signify that something bad will happen to you, but since our sub-conscious mind believes a bad incident, it will create a probability shift towards something bad to happen given it a higher chance of happening. We then naturally blame it on the superstition.

To prove this more, lets see a simple example. In some cults, cutting a banana is considered to be a bad omen as it signifies cutting the cross. But we never knew it, atleast most of us did not. We would have cut bananas a lot of times and has bad luck befallen us??? But now that I’ve told you this if you cut a banana, there is a good chance than something bad might happen. So technically the implied fact is that its all in your head. Coming back to the house, If the house is given to a new person who has never heard of Vaastu or who did NOT know about the vaastu issues of the house, the probability that he would have a misfortune is comparatively less. The reason why I said Less is coz, the people who believe the house is bad luck would still shift probability towards misfortune for him coz thats what our mind tells us.. It kind of like comes the whole way around!!!

To Conclude, an interesting outlook from this… Too many people believe that December 23 2012 will be the end of the world (for those who don’t, I shall be writing about its ramifications soon). It is kind of embedded in our minds. So if a sixth of the population believes this then we have one billion subconscious mind shifting probability towards an apocalypse.. We are screwed big time aint it??? J

hehe…good read! Are you guys planning to move out of the house soon? Or giving vaastu a kick on the rear and sticking along?

I would like to pint out something
‘Eight person who have only one thing in common’ is not true.
Five ppl work together. The company had a hard time,so everyone associated with the company had a bad time. That is d same case with the other company members.
In the eight ppl two broke with their GF.
One of the eight dont stay there, her GF did that long ago.She even left the state. But their relation didnt improve, but it got worse.
The other relation was complicated from the beginning. So i dont think it was the house effect
I still srongly think that as the previous tenants told that house had some vasthu problems,v account all the bad things happening to it’s credit.

That alone is not a valid proposition. The time frame of when it happened.. The two girlfriends though in whatever state, only happened after the stay in the house. The financial fall started exactly the same time the house was taken. Moreover, the main person who was supposed to be the money generation source moved into the house and it is that division in the company which was dipping..

My take is more generic than the house. House was just a stimulas. The main point is the whole superstition concept!.

Interesting post- sometimes makes you want to believe in these things. Interestingly here’s my funny take on Vaasthu

Hahaha.. that was a good one..

secondly u use the world “technically” a lot. eg: I told him “technically, the owner never stayed there. He was abroad his whole life and he came back only after the new house was built implying that he never stayed in this house”

Finally vaasthu or no vaasthu i cant stay in the house cuz 1.insects 2.Dust 3.My sneezing :) :) :)

interesting article…but frankly i dont agree to your final analysis that if you seem to think something unfortunate will happen, it will finally end up happening.i somehow feel there is something else to it which i cannot explain. but there is somebody i know very well who will be able to ..will ask him to read this for sure..today itself…but anyway, that was spooky i should say…specially to read when im alone in the office :(

i dint say, it will happen.. i just said, there is a higher probability of happening.

let me ask u a question.. their must be other employees in your company who stays in a house with a good omen( or vastu as u mentioned or even some other superstition that gives them a positive thought), so they must be adding to the probability of your company’s success?

n how come, just a thought can shift the probability? that definitely is superstition, if that was the case, then their r pple who think that ghost exist..n it should b ryt..? bt instead they imagine that such a thing exist.(i guess u gt what i meant.)

actually that is an interesting question.. unfortunately I can answer it in one sentence.. The two people who is supposed to bring the money into the company stay at the house… The mental block created by this is what creates the shift in probability!!! :-)

how a thought can shift probability is not superstition. Its been scientifically validated in more than enough scenarios.. I DONT believe in superstitions. About ghosts, i shall write soon (thanks for the topic).

        well then..
just by proving that wen people who watch smethng, believes it 2 happen wil contribute 2 the success.. how can it b not supernatural n obviously superstition..? coz believing z somethn els..they r not having a physical contact wit the event. n if itz really true, pple can belive 2 obsess supernatural powers n do watevr they want.! huh ??

the noetic sciences are based on a concept little known as mental mass. It based on a axiom that thought or mind has a mass and since we are intelligent it can be diverted. This mass allows it to interact with the objects in the real world. The reason why I dont say it as superstition is coz there is no basis for its origin but there is a basis for its working. Eg: if a black cat crosses your path, the superstition goes that something will go wrong for you that day. This hypothesis is baseless as a cat cannot in a normal probabilistic way interfere with you day unless it follows you daunt on causing trouble for you which is highly immprobable. But the fact that something might go wrong and the chance of something going wrong is a bit high when compared to a normal day provided the person believes this superstition or multiple people tell him about the superstition causing him to believe it subconciously. This is the probability shift I am talking about.

Now This is not a theory, but has been proven at the IONS (Institute of Noetic Sciences). Hence the theory and reason behind writing the post!.

so does psychokinetics gt anything 2 do wit sixth sense..?
i mean both r lik kinda knowing future..( if u gotta believe in smethn u gotta b kinda shure abt it)

      • callmeninja said,

        June 21, 2010 at 8:40 PM

knowing the future and changing probability are different things… one is trying to know the future and the other is changing the chance of something happeneing… Please note that I am talking probability here not absolutes!!!
